We've already paddled these — here's what to expect.
Intermediate · 2–3 hours
Paddle east toward Newlands Arm and pause at secluded beaches like Goldie's or Sandy Point — a longer outing with proper rest stops along the way, and cafes on the Esplanade if you time it right.
Experienced · 4–5 hours
A tranquil inlet between Paynesville and Raymond Island, reached through water dolphins call home. Rest at sandy picnic coves once you're there — a proper half-day paddle for confident kayakers.
Experienced · 5–6 hours
The full island loop, all day on the water. Walk a stretch, swim at Gravelley Point Beach, and picnic in the shade before paddling home — the biggest day trip we offer.

Where do I collect and return everything?
Gippsland Holidays reception, opposite parking bay 36 at Captains Cove. Everything comes back to the same desk by the return time on your agreement.
Can I hire if I'm not staying with you?
Yes. Anyone 18 or over can hire. If you booked your accommodation with us direct, your hire is 15% cheaper.
Do I need a licence?
For bikes, e-scooters and outdoor games, we sight a driver's licence or photo ID at the desk before the equipment leaves. We record only that we sighted it, and who sighted it — we never write down your licence number. Kayaks and the pedal boat don't need one, because they stay on the water in front of us.
Is there a bond?
A bond of up to $100 may be held at the desk for e-scooter hires. It goes toward damage, loss, cleaning or late-return charges if any apply, and the balance is refunded.
Are life jackets and helmets included?
Yes, always, at no extra cost. A correctly fitted life jacket for every person in a kayak or pedal boat — worn, not just carried on board. A helmet with every bike and e-scooter, for riders of every age.
How old do you have to be to ride an e-scooter?
16, and we sight photo ID at the desk. Riders under 18 can only ride where a parent or guardian has signed the agreement.
Can children use the equipment?
Yes, with an adult from your group responsible for them throughout. On the water, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. On bikes, children must be supervised for the whole hire. With the games, an adult supervises while they're set up and in use.
Are the kayaks suitable for beginners?
Yes. The water here is sheltered, and most people are comfortable within a few minutes. You do need to be comfortable in water and able to stay afloat wearing a life jacket — we'll ask you to confirm that when you sign.
Where am I allowed to take a kayak?
The sheltered canals and inshore waters around Paynesville and Captains Cove, plus whatever route we've briefed you on. No heading into open water in strong wind, chop or fading light, and no night paddling — kayaks off the water by your return time.
Where can the pedal boat go?
The sheltered canals only — not into open water, past the canal entrances, or into navigation channels. It has limited steering and no motor, so it needs plenty of room to stop and turn, and no fishing from it.
What if the weather turns while I'm out?
Come back early. The Lakes change quickly and it's your call to turn around — but if we shorten, delay or cancel a hire on safety grounds, we refund or reschedule the time you've lost.
Can I hire several things on one booking?
Yes. One booking, one agreement, one signature — you'll accept the conditions for each type of equipment you're taking.
What happens if something gets damaged?
Tell us as soon as you can. You're responsible for the reasonable cost of repair or replacement if equipment is damaged, lost or stolen during your hire, and for cleaning beyond normal use. Fair wear and tear, and mechanical failure that isn't your fault, are not charged to you.
Do I have to sign anything?
Yes — one hire agreement at the desk, covering everything you're taking. You sign on behalf of everyone in your group, including children in your care. We keep a copy and email one to you.
