Via the Princes Highway (M1) east through Traralgon and Sale, then Paynesville Road from Bairnsdale. The final 15 minutes along the water is the best part.

Via the Monaro Highway and Cann Valley Highway, joining the Princes Highway at Cann River. One of Australia's great quiet road trips through high country and coastal forest.
Sydney
8 hours
Via the Princes Highway coastal route. Consider breaking the journey in Batemans Bay or Merimbula and arriving refreshed. A genuine road-trip classic.
Break Up the Drive
Travelling from Melbourne? Consider a stop at the Sale Wetlands boardwalk (a 10-minute detour off the highway) or a coffee in Bairnsdale's main street before the final 15-minute run down to Paynesville.
